A snapshot of Legacy from August 13, 2025.
Legacy is holding steady, but the combo strategies are certainly applying pressure. The format feels relatively healthy, with players actively exploring new angles, even if there's some grumbling about staleness.
The Final Health Index sits at 78.8, decent but showing room for improvement. Metagame Diversity at 71.3 suggests a bit of concentration at the top, and the B&R Health score of 65.0 maybe points to some dissatisfaction. However, the positive Event and Player Growth Scores (86.3 and 88.0 respectively) indicate continued interest, especially on MTGO which shows strong gains, though paper participation is flat.
Combo reigns supreme with 52.4% of the metagame. This is a significant jump compared to the 5-year historical average of 40.1%. Aggro is down to 31.2% from its historical 41.6%. Dimir Tempo, Eldrazi Aggro, and UR Aggro top the individual deck charts at 5% each, followed by Dragon Stompy and Death & Taxes at 3%. Noticeably, several Stompy variants are showing up.
The Reddit crowd is buzzing about Initiative decks, especially those splashing white for Containment Priest in the sideboard. Orcish Bowmasters is, unsurprisingly, a constant topic, given its impact on creature strategies. There's no major banlist panic, but people are definitely keeping an eye on cards enabling fast mana. The community is engaged but some concerns about the high cost of entry and deck diversity are present.
