A snapshot of Modern from July 26, 2025.
Modern's looking pretty aggro right now, though maybe not in a bad way. The format feels active, and people are definitely sleeving up decks for paper events. It's not a free-for-all, but there's enough brewing to keep things interesting.
The Final Health Index is a solid 78.4. Diversity is decent at 71.9, and the Archetype Distribution is strong at 89.6, suggesting that while some decks are popular, there's still room for others. The real story is growth; Event Growth is a whopping 93.5, and Player Growth is a respectable 78.3. Paper events are booming, even as MTGO sees some decline. B&R Health is at 80, with the AI indicating that the format is in a good state, probably thanks to player adaptation.
Boros Aggro is the deck to beat, sitting at a hefty 20% of the meta. Death and Taxes is hanging in there at 12%, followed by various 4/5c Aggro builds at 7%. UR Aggro has a slice of the meta at 5%, and Affinity is at 4%. It's an aggro-heavy landscape, with 55% of the meta being Aggro decks, a sizable increase from the historical 43.9%. Control sits at only 16.2%, far below the historical 23.8%, while Combo has slightly decreased to 28.8% from the 5-year average of 32.3%.
The Reddit crowd is still salty about Fury, but the mood seems to be shifting toward grudging acceptance. Rakdos Scam continues to be a major point of discussion, and Yawgmoth is making a comeback. People are also trying to break Leyline Binding. Orcish Bowmasters is still a hot topic, both loved and hated. No B&R changes happened, so the format looks to continue adapting on its own.
