Modern: Aggro strategies dominate; bans considered
Analysis from July 10, 2025

Modern is in decent shape, but definitely feeling the squeeze from aggressive strategies right now. Boros Aggro and Death and Taxes are putting up big numbers, forcing everyone else to adapt or die.

The format's Final Health Index is a solid 79.6, with high scores in Archetype Distribution (92.7) and Event Growth (93.5). This means there's still good variety and plenty of play opportunities. However, the Diversity score is lower, indicating a bit of a top-heavy metagame dominated by a few key players. Player growth is solid at 78.3, so people are sticking around.

Boros Aggro is the deck to beat, sitting at nearly 12% of the meta, closely followed by Death and Taxes at 11%. 4/5c Aggro, UR Aggro, and Affinity are also putting up numbers. The super-archetype breakdown confirms the aggro surge: Aggro is at 47%, a significant jump from its historical 5-year average of 43.8%. Control is down, and Combo is only slightly up. Prepare for early pressure.

The Reddit hivemind is focused on Rakdos Evoke’s dominance and whether Grief and Fury need a check. Some folks are trying to beat the aggro onslaught with Amulet Titan, and there's even talk of a Dimir Mill resurgence as a budget option. Underworld Breach getting the axe is good, but the real question is whether it's enough to slow down the aggro train. The community is cautiously optimistic but actively hunting for answers, hoping to avoid further bans.
