A snapshot of Modern from July 28, 2025.
Modern is a thriving battlefield right now, with aggro strategies leading the charge, but the format feels remarkably self-correcting and responsive to new cards.
The key health metrics are all looking good. The final Health Index sits at a solid 78.7, and the Archetype Distribution score is an impressive 90.2. Event Growth is up at 93.5, so people are clearly playing. While Metagame Diversity is a little lower than some previous years at 73.0, it’s still a respectable number indicating some strong innovation across the format. This lines up with the B&R Health Score of 80.0, suggesting that the current banlist is doing its job and letting the meta breathe.
Boros Aggro is the clear frontrunner at 19%, backed up by other aggressive strategies like Death and Taxes at 11%. 4/5c Aggro is also making a splash at 8%, showing the power of efficient threats and mana bases. It's an aggro-heavy meta right now, with those strategies making up over half the meta, but combo and control are still putting up a fight.
The community is all over Rakdos Evoke and Orcish Bowmasters right now. They are staples, but also polarizing. Scam decks leveraging evoke creatures are also hot, aiming for explosive early plays. The One Ring is also showing up in control builds, offering much needed card advantage. Community discussion around Leyline Binding enabling 5-color decks is also very prevalent. With no recent B&R changes, it appears players are ready to adapt and evolve to keep the format exciting.
