Modern: Diversity good, player growth declining
Analysis from August 13, 2025

Modern's looking pretty solid this week, with a Final Health Index of 67.5. The format's holding its own, showing resilience and adaptation to keep things fresh. It seems like innovation and player choices are steering the ship nicely.

The key scores tell the story. Metagame Diversity at 75.0 shows a good range of decks in play. The Archetype Distribution Score, a whopping 90.7, indicates a very even spread across different strategies, and Event Growth is stable at 85.7, indicating no issues in tournament organization. The one worrying sign is Player Growth, scoring only 24.8, showing a declining trend in paper and MTGO participation. We need to address the player dropoff, even as event numbers remain somewhat consistent.

Looking at the Top 10 decks, Boros Aggro and Death and Taxes are the top dogs, representing 14.4% and 13% of the meta respectively. Affinity and 4/5c Aggro hover around 7%, while UR Aggro shows up at 4%. The rest of the Top 10, including Simic Birthing Ritual, Eldrazi Aggro, Mardu Aggro, Mono Black Aggro and Jund have a smaller footprint. The Super-Archetype Breakdown leans heavily toward AGGRO at 53.6%, with CONTROL at 19.3% and COMBO at 27.1%. This is a notable shift from the 5-year averages, where AGGRO was only 43.9%.

Community chatter on Reddit highlights the strength of Rakdos Evoke, with players debating optimal builds and sideboard strategies. Amulet Titan's resurgence is also a hot topic. Fury's power level is still under scrutiny, and Modern staples such as Ragavan are always being watched from a financial perspective. The AI noted that with no changes to the banlist and a healthy metagame in place with new decks emerging, the format appears to be in a good state. This suggests the format is self-correcting, which is always a good sign.
