A snapshot of Pauper from August 12, 2025.
Pauper's looking solid, if a little aggro-heavy right now. The format feels active, with plenty of players, but the top decks could use some shaking up to keep things interesting.
The overall health index sits at 79.0, which is pretty good. Player Growth is through the roof at 95.9, especially on MTGO, and Event Growth is a respectable 86.3. The B&R Health Score is lower at 70.0, probably due to worries about the meta. Diversity is decent at 77.8, but could be better.
Mono Blue Aggro and Affinity are the decks to beat, holding a significant chunk of the metagame at 13% and 11% respectively. Red Deck Wins and Burn also show a strong presence, cementing the Aggro dominance. Jund is hanging in there at 5%, but the rest of the top 10 is filled with aggro strategies. The numbers show that Aggro accounts for almost 70% of the meta; Control and Combo are lagging behind at 14.2% and 16.6% respectively. This is a pretty significant shift from the 5-year averages, where Control had a much larger share.
The community's buzzing about the lack of recent B&R changes, particularly the non-action on High Tide. The AI analysis is saying it is fine, but some players feel it warps the format. Discussions on Reddit are filled with concerns about the dominance of established aggro decks and the need for new strategies. People are testing new sideboard tech for artifact matchups and exploring reanimator strategies, so innovation is still happening. Galvanic Blast and Atog are still under scrutiny. It will be interesting to see if something gets shaken up soon.
