Pioneer: Aggro decks dominate format currently
Analysis from August 12, 2025

Pioneer's still a brawl! Aggro's got a stranglehold on the meta, and while the overall health score is decent at 73.2, the format feels less diverse than it used to. Get ready to rumble if you're sleeving up for this week's matches.

The health scores paint a picture. Diversity is down (66.5) from previous years. The Shannon Index declining is particularly concerning. Archetype Distribution (90.7) is great, but that’s partially because aggro has so many viable flavors. Event Growth (68.1) and Player Growth (82.4) trends show a concerning pattern with online play slightly offsetting paper's decline. The B&R Health score is a solid 75, reflecting the lack of recent changes.

The top dogs are clear: Red Deck Wins (22.2%) and Rakdos Aggro (17%) are the decks to beat. Arclight Phoenix (7%) still hangs around, but after that, you're looking at a bunch of aggro variants like Golgari, Spirits, Gruul, and UR, each around 3%. Selesnya and Boros are also-rans at 2%, and Dimir is barely a blip on the radar at under 1%. If you're not prepared for constant aggression, you're gonna have a bad time.

The community's buzzing about Rakdos Aggro's dominance and the rise of Mono-Green Devotion. Players are trying to figure out how to beat Rakdos, with much debate over sideboard tech. Mono-Green is gaining traction, powered by Karn and big mana, but it's vulnerable to disruption. Fable of the Mirror-Breaker is still public enemy number one for many, with some calling for its banning. No B&R changes mean the format is staying put for now, but the cries for Fable to go are getting louder.
