Premodern: Booming format sees massive growth.
Analysis from November 4, 2025

Premodern is booming, and the format clocked an extremely high Final Health Index of 83.4 this week, backed by significant growth trends. Paper play is thriving, showing a spectacular 9.6% increase in player count and 9.9% growth in events month-over-month. Looking at the raw numbers, October registered 127 events and 3,345 paper players, confirming that Premodern is cementing its status as a premier competitive eternal format.

Digging into the stability scores confirms the resilience of the ecosystem. We registered a Metagame Diversity Score of 81.1 and an unbelievable Archetype Distribution Score of 95.9. While Aggro currently claims the plurality at 37.9%, the split between Control (32.6%) and Combo (29.5%) is remarkably tight. This demonstrates a fundamentally healthy environment where all major strategies are viable, even if Aggro is currently setting the pace.

The story at the top of the meta remains fast and red. Sligh (RDW) is the definitive deck to beat, holding 10.1% of the field, closely followed by Goblins at 8%. These two hyper-efficient decks are forcing the meta to adjust; Madness and Terrageddon are the next tiers down, tied at 4% each. If you aren't packing dedicated early interaction, you risk getting run over before turn four.

This high-pressure environment is reflected directly in community discussion, where chatter revolves intensely around the necessity of anti-aggro tools like Swords to Plowshares and Pyroclasm effects. Innovation is rising to meet the challenge, though: Domain Zoo is noted as a strong rising archetype, and players piloting The Rock are shifting toward incorporating tempo threats like Wild Mongrel and even brief flirtations with Psychatog. Crucially, the bedrock of the format, Wasteland, continues to earn universal praise for its vital role in keeping greedy mana bases honest. Despite the pressure from aggressive decks, overall community sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, celebrating stability and a high skill ceiling.
