Premodern: Format healthy, diversity and growth high
Analysis from July 26, 2025

Premodern is looking really good right now. The format feels healthy and vibrant, with a good mix of known quantities and brewing happening. It's a fun time to sling some spells with these older cards!

The key health metrics are all solid. A Final Health Index of 87.1 is excellent. Metagame Diversity is high at 79.8, showing a good number of viable decks. Archetype Distribution at 95.2 and Event/Player Growth both in the 90s means the format is active and growing. Paper events are up, and it's clear people are enjoying playing. The move into MTGO is noted, with a small (but hopeful) bump.

Looking at the top decks, we see Goblins at 8% and Sligh at 7%, proving that classic aggro strategies are still powerful. Terrageddon clocks in at 4%, showing some spice. The super-archetype breakdown is also interesting, with Control edging out Aggro at 40.6% to 33.1%, and Combo sitting at 26.3%. This is a slight shift from the 5-year averages, suggesting the meta is adapting.

The Reddit threads are buzzing with decklists, and players are always trying to find new edges. Deadguy Ale and Survival variants are getting attention. People are also trying to brew new strategies around powerful enchantments and artifacts. The community mentions that the card pool has enough interesting cards to make unique strategies viable. The community is engaged and actively fostering a competitive and creative environment.
