A snapshot of Premodern from July 19, 2025.
Premodern is looking exceptionally healthy, showing robust growth and a diverse metagame. This isn’t a format stagnating; it's actively evolving with plenty of room for innovation.
The numbers back it up. A final health index of 88, with a metagame diversity score of 82.3, means the format isn't dominated by one strategy. The impressive event and player growth scores (94.3 and 89.8, respectively) prove Premodern is attracting and retaining players. The archetype distribution is nearly perfectly balanced.
Aggro is out in force (36.5%), led by Sligh at 10% and Goblins/Elves at 6% each. RG Aggro and Madness are also putting up numbers. Control is right there with them (39%), and combo's holding its own (24.5%). Seems we can expect some heavy aggro mirrors and a solid control presence. Terrageddon is an interesting combo deck to watch here.
Reddit is buzzing about blue-based Standstill control, and refining existing archetypes seems to be the trend. Cards like Force of Will and Brainstorm are always discussed, but the lack of ban requests suggests a happy player base. Standstill is the card to look out for, and players are strategizing how and when to break it for maximum advantage. No B&R changes to report, but it seems the format is healthy without needing intervention, and the focus seems to be on keeping things balanced.
