A snapshot of Premodern from August 13, 2025.
Premodern is looking pretty solid right now. The format seems healthy, with rising player numbers and a good mix of strategies duking it out. It's definitely a good time to sleeve up some old favorites and jump in.
The Health Index clocks in at a respectable 80.2. Metagame Diversity is also strong at 80.5. The Archetype Distribution Score is sitting pretty high at 94.6, showing that there is some variety amongst the decks. Event and Player growth scores are both up around 88, meaning more people are playing more often. So, good news all around!
Looking at the Top 10, we've got a few frontrunners to watch out for. Sligh (RDW) is the deck to beat at 8%, followed by Goblins at 6% and Elves at 5%. Terrageddon is making a splash at 3%, and Madness is hanging in there at 2%. Don't sleep on those rogue decks lurking at the bottom either, like Machine Head and Deadguy Ale; someone's putting in work with those. The super-archetype breakdown shows a fairly even split between Aggro (30.9%), Control (38.5%), and Combo (30.6%). This is a slight shift from the historical averages, where Aggro typically has a larger slice of the pie.
The community is buzzing about the strength of control decks, specifically those packing Standstill. Some think it's getting a little oppressive. Others are talking about how to punish slow control strategies. There's a lot of discussion on new sideboard options and how to adapt. No big B&R news this week, and it doesn't look like anyone's clamoring for changes just yet. The focus is on adapting and innovating, which is what Premodern is all about.
