A snapshot of Standard from July 2, 2025.
Standard’s looking pretty rough. Aggro’s smashed the meta, and the lack of B&R changes means we're stuck with it. It's a format where either you're beating down, or getting beat down.
The overall health index is a mediocre 57.1. The Archetype Distribution Score is decent at 77.6, but that's misleading because it doesn't account for the sheer volume of aggro. Player growth is solid at 69.4, but event growth is tanking at 22.5. People are playing, just not in tournaments. No B&R changes make this format pretty stale.
UR Aggro and Red Deck Wins are the clear decks to beat, making up nearly 65% of the meta. Dimir Aggro and Golgari Aggro are present, but a far cry from the top dogs. Control and Combo are virtually nonexistent compared to historical averages. It's an aggro or be-aggressed world.
The community’s not thrilled. Reddit is full of talk about Esper Legends' dominance. Players are trying to tune Rakdos Midrange and Mono-Red Aggro to fight back, but the format feels solved. Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, is still a hot-button card, and Fable of the Mirror-Breaker remains a format staple. The lack of B&R updates means these powerhouses remain unchecked, and the format's fate rests on new set releases to shake things up.
