A snapshot of Vintage from August 13, 2025.
Vintage is a format of raw power, but right now, it feels a little…stuck. The overall health index is middling at 68.9, and while the community clearly loves playing, the format isn't as dynamic as it could be. The big story? Combo's grip is tightening, and everyone's building to beat Mishra's Workshop.
The numbers don't lie. Diversity is low (39.9), indicating a stale metagame. Archetype Distribution is high (92.1), suggesting powerful archetypes dominate. Combo is at 45.8% of the meta, significantly higher than its historical 5-year average of 34.7%. Aggro, conversely, is down to 32.1% from a historical 40.4%. Player and event growth remain solid, so folks are playing; they're just playing the same stuff.
You need to know the decks to beat: Hatebear (13%) and MUD (12%) are the clear top dogs. Esper Control (9%) and Dimir Control (8%) are still hanging around, and a few decks like BUG Midrange (3%) and Azorius Aggro (2%) are barely registering. Combo is strong, and everyone’s packing hate.
Community chatter revolves around one thing: Workshop. Players are dissecting every build, trying to find the silver bullet. Doomsday is still a threat, requiring careful maneuvering. Orcish Bowmasters gets a lot of attention as a card that punishes draw-heavy strategies. Lurrus remains unrestricted, so the community is waiting to see how it affects the meta long-term. The format needs a shake-up; hopefully, new cards will provide it.
